Long before modern construction, the craftsmen of Bristol, England set a standard the world still honors today. In fact, Bristol was the most prosperous port on the west coast of Britain. As a result, ships leaving her harbor were legendary for their quality. The tidal conditions there were extreme. Water levels swung more than 30 feet between tides. Every vessel had to be built stronger and maintained more carefully than anywhere else. Nothing could be left to chance. Therefore, crews had to inspect and secure everything before a ship could safely operate. Ultimately, the result was a standard so dependable it became a saying. British sailors called it: shipshape and Bristol fashion. Even today, in the yachting world, a vessel in Bristol condition is the highest compliment an owner can receive. His hands-on commitment built this company from the ground up.
